This fairly recent AFF graduate with less than 100 jumps was in the habit of checking his handles before exit, or so he thought. It would seem that the toggle snagged, after he checked it last, as he stood up in this large aircraft and didn't check again before exit. Nobody else on the load noticed either.
As these pictures show, the jumper was lucky not to suffer a premature and was fortunate not to be freeflying. The misplaced handle almost led to a fumbled pull. Thanks to the jumper (and cameraman) for allowing me to publish these pictures. He certainly learned a valuable lesson, or rather had one re-inforced, and I hope others can learn too.
