The purpose of this exercise is to teach one how to dive down and join a formation below. After waiting for a couple of seconds and exiting a modified track position is adopted (essentially the arch is maintained to give a steeper dive?) building up speeds greater than normal. For this reason, the student flares out half-way to the formation to gauge the approach. If necessary, further swoops are performed, otherwise the distance is made up by means of fast fall and forward movement. Any points at the end are a bonus...
